The Rose and the Tree Frog

from Printed Matter

Warja Lavater
The Rose and the Tree Frog
Zurich, Switzerland: Edition Schlégl. 1978

Synopsis: A tale told in abstract images, The Rose and the Tree Frog is an artist’s book in which Warja Lavater’s drawings actually encode pieces of narrative. A key at the beginning of the book gives the French, German, English, and Italian translations of key marks found in the drawings so that they can be “read” as well as admired for their visual style.
